Lindsay Manufacturing, Inc. (LMI) was originally formed in 1956 as Thermodynamics, Inc., a manufacturer of heat exchangers. In 1960, it became Vacu-Maid, Inc. reflecting its commitment to the manufacture of central vacuum systems. Throughout the 1960s and 70s Vacu-Maid obtained several patents and helped to pioneer the central vacuum industry. During this time products were sold under the trade names Vacu-Maid and Astro Vac.

From its Ponca City, Oklahoma facility, Vacu-Maid developed strong sales along the east coast and began to sell products into Canada. By the late 70s, the company had expanded its operation with a solid distributor network throughout the United States and also started to increase sales in several European countries and Australia.

The manufacturing base was continually expanded and improved. In 1987, the company changed its name to Lindsay Manufacturing, Inc. (LMI) to accurately reflect its role as a manufacturer. The company is, today, still a true manufacturer - processing galvannealed coiled steel into the familiar central vacuum cans; washing, drying, powder coating, and baking the cans before assembling with electrical motors and components, prior to packaging. A Vacu-MaidR central vacuum system can reduce the amount of allergens in your home by extracting dirt, dust, mold, pollen, and pet dander out of your carpet and furnishings - and it's simple. The system sends these allergens through the network of hidden tubing in your walls to the dirt can located in a remote area of your home. By doing this, the central vacuum system rids your home of these potentially harmful irritants--unlike most portable vacuum cleaners, which leave much of the fine dust recirculating in the air. Also, by having a central vacuum vented to the outside of your home, it is possible to remove even the smallest of particles from your living environment. Vacu-MaidR offers a wide variety of tools and accessories to fit any cleaning application--ranging from general home cleaning to car care. All of Vacu-Maid'sR hassle-free tools have been designed for a gentle, yet powerful cleaning.

Vacu-MaidR systems use cyclonic separation. This differs from "filtered" central vacuums in the way fine particles are removed. While a filtered system uses a bag to catch these particles, a cyclonic system completely removes these particles by venting them outside. As dirt enters the canister, the air inside swirls like a tornado with the heavier debris falling to the bottom of the can, while the fine particles are vented outside. This prevents most of the dust from getting into the motor. Some competitors may say that there is no way to keep all of the fine dust off of the loading fans, but our cyclonic power units and Ametek motors are built to withstand dust in the motor without affecting the life or function of the system. Ametek specifically designs motors to function under these conditions for use with Vacu-MaidR cyclonic systems.

Vacu-MaidR has the power and versatility to meet any cleaning challenge. Electric power brushes, air turbine brushes, and other floor brushes make it easy to clean almost any carpet pile or hard flooring. Vacu-Maid'sR long list of attachments and tools add to the ease of cleaning. With a Vacu-MaidR central vacuum, you don't need any other vacuums. This system can do it all. Just plug the hose into one of the many easily accessible inlet valves, select the right attachment tool, and go for it. It's more portable than a portable, with up to five times the cleaning power.
